Climate change is the single biggest health threat facing humanity.
At least, that's what the WHO said in 2021, despite the world being in the grips of the COVID-19 pandemic, and we couldn't agree more.
Direct health effects from extreme weather and heat-related illnesses, indirect health effects from famine, water shortage, and food insecurity, and all of the devastating physical and mental health consequences associated with millions of people becoming climate refugees in the coming years. All of this will impact healthcare services in unimaginable ways.
However, did you know that the healthcare industry itself is one of the biggest contributors to air pollution and carbon emissions? If the global healthcare industry were a country, it would be the 6th greatest carbon emitter on the planet. This means that while we are treating patients today, we are simultaneously and paradoxically harming our patients of tomorrow.
In 2020, we came together as we believe we can ignite the change needed to build more sustainable healthcare systems. Through education, information and guidance we hope to positively impact our workplaces so that we can look after our planet as well as we look after our patients. For company information, see here.
Our mission is twofold. Firstly, to put the healthcare profession at the forefront of the global response to the climate crisis, both in terms of climate crisis avoidance and preparedness. Secondly, to make the healthcare industry sustainable so that our profession can lead by example.
Everything we do will always be in line with our mission to be planet friendly.
The climate crisis is something that affects everyone, regardless of skin colour, wealth or background. With that in mind, we commit to ensuring that nobody is ever prevented from accessing our content or events due to geography or money.
